I’m having problems getting Unity to download at all for Windows… I go to www.unity3d.com, get to where I can click on the download page, then click to download the windows version.
When I go to the download via your website as normal, it stays on the download screen (the one where you see a landscape spread across various screens/devices). In the corner of the browser it says “waiting for download.unity3d.com…” which sits there forever.
According to my performance monitor there is quite a lot of network traffic thereafter. I never see anything asking me if I want to download/open/save any file. I’ve tried it in safari and firefox also with the same effect. There is never any download started in Safari’s download window. The browser just keeps spinning its wheels for a long time.
When I click directly on the link I just posted, it does the same thing, except it opens in its own blank window where it proceeds to chew up network bandwidth but achieves nothing. The performance monitor suggests around 250kb/sec receipt of network data but I don’t know if that’s really the file downloading or something else. I thought I’d leave it for a while to see if maybe it would finish after a while and suddenly turn the downloaded data into a file, but I gave up after quite a while waiting.
There are no errors, no messages, no 404’s, nothing.
The above two links work okay on my mac but this is a different computer. I’ll try it again tomorrow on the pc which was having the issue.
As mentioned before, yes, you see waiting for download.unity3d.com... in the corner of IE8. But there is never the usual popup to ask if you want to save/open the file or anything normal looking. It just sits there.
I have testing it here (Germany) with IE8 (32/64bit) and FF3 on Windows 7 (64bit), works perfect with all Unity versions. I click on download no second later comes the download dialog from the browser (and the download speed is good).
Ok so this morning the original download is now working on this computer. I didn’t change anything on my end. Immediately after clicking on the download link I get a window asking if I want to save or open the file as normal. Also going via your website where you click to download a given version and then you see the screen with a landscape spread across various output devices, that also now works correctly.
Not sure what/if anything you did to fix this, but thanks.
I tried downloading 2.6.1 earlier today and it refused to work via Firefox. So I started up Chrome and it gave me the download in a single click like it should. To me, this smacks of fancy pants browser specific code. Keep it real yo, go old school. >)
I’m having the same problem. I’ve tried to download it 7 or 8 times now. Every time I get a great transfer rate for awhile, then it just stops. I’ve been downloading plenty of other things at the same time, so I know it’s not my ISP.
Right now I’ve been able to get 410/433 MB before it dies. It looks like a time-out or congenstion problem at your end, but I can’t really tell.
