Can't find game in Market with Galaxy S

Hi all,

Last week we released our first mobile game, a commercial project for a long-standing client. It’s called Brains’ Atomic Adventures and it’s available for iOS and Android. You can find it on the Android Market… at least you can unless you’re running a Samsung Galaxy S. I’ve seen on this and other forums that the Galaxy S has had some issues with Unity games, but I can’t understand why it’s incapable of finding it on the Market. If you click through from a web search the Market app literally tells you the game doesn’t exist, but if in your other hand you do the exact same thing with an HTC Desire it’s absolutely fine. What is all that about!?

Following known issues with this handset, have the guys at Unity specifically written something into the manifest that hides Unity games from this phone?

I’m desperate for an answer on this as, guess what, my client has a Galaxy S!

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Many thanks,

Simon

I have Galaxy Tab and searching BRAIN ATOMIC I can’t find it as well… but searching BRAINS ATOMIC I found it

I can’t find it on my LG Optimus V either. When I find it on the Android Market on my PC and try to install it my phone isn’t on the list of devices to install to. I’ve found that to be the case with a number of Android apps, not just Unity games. Some Unity games will install, others won’t.

What ARMv are you building for? I don’t know the specs on the Galaxy S but I know the LG Optimus V is on the lower end of the processing power spectrum, that’s one of the reasons I got it… it’s kind of a yardstick device. I figure if my games run on my LG they should run on most devices.

I think there’s some market algorithm that determines if an app will run on a given device. Have you tried to do a build and run from Unity direct to a Galaxy S? If it fails there may be some usefull error message.

Anyway, good luck. Hope it works out for you.

EDIT: I tried megmaltese’s search parameters, as well as a few others, and none resulted in a match on my LG. Found it easily from my PC though.

Well, I found it but it won’t download, very strange: it starts dl then suddenly stop.
Maybe upload of apk went wrong? Try to re-upload?

Because Your app is 37.38MB, you will have problems on Samsung devices due this - 30 MB download cache limit.

If your app is over 30 MB, it behaves on Samsung exactly the way megmaltese wrote: “it starts dl then suddenly stop”…

So it is possible, that Android Market in newer versions of Android have filter for this cache limit,
so apps over 30 MB will not shown on Samsung devices at all?
What Android version is on that Samsung?
Afaik in 2.2 it is still possible to find apps over 30 MB on Samsung (although they cannot be downloaded)

I have A2.2.

Guys,

Thanks very much for all of your input. It looks like you’re right about the 30Mb limit. Grrr. I’m beginning to think Apple’s draconian iron fist has some use after all!

Not really, but Googles lazyness on putting up strict hardware requirements and technical criterias is stricking back. I would be willing to bet that the nexus s which technically is more or less a galaxy s too, does not have this problem with its unmodified Android 2.3 on it …

LOL I am planning on buying a Galaxy Captivate or S 9000 for developing a game.
