Can't find which Unity version works best for my old Macbook Pro!

Hi guys, I’m a sound designer and I want to learn more about game development but I’m having a problem trying to find the most recommendable Unity version for my Macbook. My current system is this one:

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011)
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
Storage: 250 GB Solid State SATA Drive
500 GB SATA Disk

I’d appreciate your help! Thank you.

Hi @robertokramersound ,

My recommendation is to try with the latest version first and see how it goes. If you have any issue, you can always come back to the forums to ask questions

The advantage of using the latest one is that you’ll be able to use the latest features that maybe are not available on older versions, additionally, the latest version will include fixes for older version bugs and optimizations that such older versions may not have.

Good luck with it!

Hi @DiegoDePalacio_1 ,

I downloaded and installed the latest Unity 2019 version but it was running very slowly on my macbook.
Do you think it’s something I need to fix on my computer’s preferences or something? If that’s not the case, would love to know what version you would recommend.

Thank you!

Hi @robertokramersound ,

Unfortunately, I think is not about preferences is about your hardware :frowning:

If you can’t work with such a version because is too slow, and you want to use Unity anyways, another possibility is to check the release dates of the different versions of Unity and try to use one that is not too far away in time from the fabrication date of your computer. Maybe try with a version 3 to 5 years ahead or your computer.

Unfortunately, because your computer is from 2011, the Unity versions in 2016 are still 5.x. Those versions are a lot different than the ones released recently.

If you don’t mind anyways, you can check the release dates and try with some of them here: Download Archive

Good luck with it!
