I wanted to check out the layout of our message when a user views our site without the web player plugin so I uninstalled the Unity Web Player.
There were actually two web players so I uninstalled both.
Now I when I get the install button things work fine. I download the plugin and install it without any problems, but… first of all the page does not refresh after installation and if I refresh it manually I still only get the install unity web player now button. It is like the web player is not installed. When I go into windows control panel/programs and features it show the webplayer only takes up aprox 80kb space which was ~11mb the first time I uninstalled it.
It does not help to restart the browser or even the computer.
(other people are reporting that the player works fine when they already have the plugin installed, so I have not messed up the detecting of unity etc.)
You say you had two webplayers installed? this must mean you had two different versions of the webplayer installed, which versions of the webplayer did you have installed before un-installing them?
In the mean time you could attempt this:
Un-installing all unity webplayers
Manually delete any left over files in this directory path: C:\Users[UserAccountName]\AppData\LocalLow\Unity
Clearing the cache and browser data from the internet options in IE 7
Re-install the same webplayer version that the content was built with, example: if the content was built in 2.6.1 editor, then install 2.6.1 webplayer
Before launching the installer ensure all browsers are closed.
Hope this helps and if no luck, I recommend sending us a bug report.
I dont know exactly which version I had to begin with, but I suspect the reason for me having two webplayers in the beginning was that I installed a beta version of unity at some point. I think the beta I had installed was 2.5.1 something.
After installing the webplayer 2.x it reports (through programs and features) it says it is version 2.6.1f3_31223 (it was built using 2.6.1fxxxxx).
Currently what do you have installed on your machine unity wise? Do you have multiple editors?
If possible I would recommend un-installing everything even the editor if you can? As long as you can re-install the editors at a later date.
I would also delete webplayer preferences, If you have webplayer files in this directory: C:\Users\UserAccountName\AppData\Local\Temp\UnityWebPlayer attempt to delete these also. Then once again follow those steps from previous post.
Also you could attempt to update IE 7 to IE 8 and see if that makes any difference.
Thanks again and I look forward to your reply,
Chris
No I dont have multiple editors installed. I have (had) 2.6.1f27xxx unity editor installed.
I tried to uninstall the editor (I havnt installed it again yet) and done all the steps you have described, but it still dosnt work.
When I install the webplayer it still says in the control panel/program and features that the unity web player only takes up 80 kb of space.
When going in to the IE menu Tools/Manage add-ons there is a unity "plugin (ocx), but I cannot delete it (only enable/disable, the delete button is disabled).
It is not posible for me to use another version of IE. =/
forgot to add that tried to install it through chrome and here it worked after installing, but it still does not work in IE7.
If I could just switch browser that would be fine, but I am dependent on having all major browsers installed (except IE8) and working to verify our projects works in all of them.
Have you reported a bug yet? I would like to get this issue into our bug tracking software for our records and this would be a lot easier for managing this case.
I will personally investigate this case today, when you have filed the bug report could you send me the case number so I can pick it up straight away?
Please include in the bug report:
Steps to reproduce
Which browsers the install is recognised and which aren’t
Any relevant screenshots or a video of yourself showing the issue your experiencing.
Thanks, this information will be extremely helpful for me to investigate further and to help a developer implement a fix if required.
