Hi,
I can’t make a new project in Unity 6 in Mac, the OS version Sequoia 15.0.1., M3. It gives an error message “Project folder or disk is read only. Please move the project folder somewhere readable and writable.” How to fix this?
Hi! To what path are you creating the project? And are you able to share an editor log with the error?
hi, thanks for your reply. The path is in the HD, in the Documents folder.
How do I get the editor log on Mac that I can see the error?
Here ya go! Unity - Manual: Log files reference
Just attach it here and we’ll take a look!

Thanks! Wow it is unusual that there would be so little information in the log.
But to start I have 2 questions.
- How did you install the editor?
- Sometimes users need the Intel editor for plugins and such is there a reason you chose the Intel version over Apple silicon?
Hi, thanks for your reply. I uninstalled Unity and Unity Hub, and then I installed Unity Hub from Unity webpage. When I opened Unity Hub, it suggested to install Unity 6000 Silicon, and I installed it. When I created a new project and this time the process seemed to go further until I got an error message (1) and then another (2) after pressing “try again”.
And then I went to comp’s privacy and security folder, checked on the Unity Hub and Unity (3).
And then I got this error message when I tried to open a project (4).
There are a few possibilities to explain what’s happening here:
- You’re out of disk space. I doubt that as you would have been notified by the OS
- A permissions issue with either Documents or the unity folder within it. Do any other apps have issues writing into your Documents or that unity folder?
- There’s a bug somewhere that is not very obvious and needs further investigation.
In any case, could you submit a bug and mention the incident number here so we can track it? Thanks!
Hi there,
I got the solution. I migrated old mac to new mac, and it seems like it transferred some data from the old one. I ended up in formatting mac (M3) and didn’t do migration. I installed Unity without any problems and now it works on my mac.
Thanks for your help!
Hi, I got the error back after I switched on Macbook again. It said again that the file is “is read only”. I installed again Unity Hub and Unity on Macbook again, I tried to open an existing file and I got this in Unity view:
![]()
Is the user and administrator account on your machine?
This home was migrated another computer correct? Perhaps the permissions or ownership are incorrect and will need to be fixed. Which is unfortunately outside our expertise and more likely something that Apple or their communities would have the best and current advice for.
I first migrated but then I formatted the comp, and started from the beginning. Installing Unity and opening an existing project worked. When I shut down and switched the comp on again, the same error came back. Disk is read-only.
I checked the issues on Mac with Apple support. Permissions for the folders: full access for Unity Hub and Unity6, checked. Admin rights - checked. Disk Utilities - hd is not damaged, checked. Also 900gb free space on comp. Other apps seem to work on my mac, and Unity works on an old intel mac. Support said that this could be a Unity issue?
I’m still curious about what’s going on here. Could you submit a bug and report the incident number here so we can track internally? Thanks!
I have the same error. The template project is downloaded, but not created in the specified folder.
Unity 6.1, MacBook Air M1, macOS Sequoia 15.5.
