Just wanted to see what the rule of thumb is when buying from the asset store as far as returns go. It would seem that the content creator is responsible for offering/honoring a return. I am really interested in this asset Unity Asset Store - The Best Assets for Game Making but I can’t seem to get the web demo to work and I have not had any success contacting the provider. Does Unity do any vetting before posting resources for sale? Like is there way to get someone to say “Yes this works” before I buy it?
Usually rating and comments are a good indication, but you seem to be out of luck on that front. The mere fact that it is available in the store should however tell you that it works. Or at least did in a certain version. It’s not unusual that web demos break either, so if I had to bet, I’d wager that the asset works just fine but somehow the web demo broke or wasn’t done correctly. If the developer is not responding though, that might be cause for concern. And yes, the asset store team does look at an asset before it is allowed in the store. Though through personal experience I have to say that the quality of this “vetting” can vary a bit. However, something that is obviously broken is very unlikely to end up in the store.
Either way, don’t even bother with writing a refund related email to a publisher, they can’t do anything anyway. You’ll have to talk to the asset store team directly.
