Can't seem to import a model from Blender if there is a nurbs curve with it

So I’m making a chain of bricks in Blender using the array modifier and shaping it to a path with the curve modifier and a nurbs curve, but as long as the curve is in my blend file the chain of bricks won’t render. The curve, of course, shouldn’t render since it’s a one dimensional object, but if it’s anywhere in the scene then the (three dimensional) bricks won’t render either.

I’m pretty sure that what I’m doing is possible, I’ve seen videos of people using this method on youtube, but I don’t know what they / I am doing differently. Any help?

I hit this too. If there is a nurb in the scene then the .blend file fails silently when importing to Unity.

Upgrading to Blender 2.70a and Unity 4.5 fixed this issue for me. I suspect is was a bug fixed in Blender.
