This is not expected behaviour, but try to set the webplayer channel to release to update the engine to latest 4.x version. You can do that via right click → Release channel → select release.

But if I go to http://webplayer.unity3d.com/setup/ the Unity plugin displays the same “Failed to start Unity Player” error with the option to “Install Manually”…
Maybe my computer just isn’t able to run Unity 4 stuff? It’s 32-bit Windows XP and DirectX9.
Your current channel is stable so default for you, so that is the 3.x engine / runtime, but with 4.x content it should detect that and use 4.x automatically.
The error you see could be preventing the webplayer from doing that.
Your version check is correct, I’m glad we have now established you are up to date.
The setup page I believe is built with older version of Unity but it should be compatible with the latest versions. Is there any error details? please check the WebPlayer log file: Unity - Manual: Log files - Please copy and paste the log file contents or attach it.
And it is still not working. I do NOT know all the lingo and tech stuff. Just know that downloading over and over after deleting the file and restarting my machine didn’t work, holding down ALT while downloading didn’t work, and the demos from the Unity site are not working either. Any other suggestions??? [quote=“CreativeChris, post:6, topic: 495834, username:CreativeChris”]
