original post:

It is about time I post in the showcase about the game I’ve been working on at Silverlode Interactive for about 9 months. It is called Captains of DarkTide, and is a web-based MMORPG. You control a ship, which you add cannons and hire crew. This is not a pirate game, it is a fantasy ship game based on our flagship title, SAGA!

Our game is currently in Closed Beta, and will soon launch Open Beta. If you want to get into the Closed Beta now, use “unity” as your referral code and your account will be activated automatically! Or just click the link below.

And here’s what the Marketing Director has to say:

"Captains of DarkTide is not a pirate game. An Orc does not set out on the high seas seeking adventure, fame or glory. A Dwarf does not set out at all if he can help it. Since the cataclysm, life at sea has become a necessity and while booty (for all its meanings), still draws many a captain, for the majority of the SAGA faction’s domination and conquest are more of a motivation.

We hope you enjoy our take on naval battles and the possibilities that become available when the entire fantasy universe is available for content.

Don’t forget to friend Captains of DarkTide on Facebook to be the first to see new screen shots and models as they are released."

Wow! Looks great! And I just saw your video for Saga. That looks great too!

This looks awesome! I wanna play it

great artwork!

Can’t see the game in any menu there. Did you suspended the registration for beta?

Hmm, you are right. It is navigating to the wrong post-signup page. Well, here is the link: http://game.playdarktide.com/play.php

i used as refferal unity but my account isn’t activated and i didn’t had an e-mail with a link or something.

That looks pretty nice  I like the sunny atmosphere.

EDIT: For some reason, I seem to be unable to register. I push the button but nothing happens.

That is odd that it doesn’t do anything, it works perfectly for me in Chrome in XP. What browser and OS are you using?

My previous post has the link  Also the original post does too. Your account is supposed to be activated, that’s what I was told would happen. Try the above link, if it doesn’t let you in then let me know.

Yep did not let me log in either, even following your link, it just says account not activated yet…

The web guy lies…

Just registered twice, once with the referral code, and once without it. Let me know when it’s activated, I’d love to check this out.

This looks really great!! Going to have to check this one out.

Regards,
Matt.

I’ve activated everyone’s account up to this point.

Thanks for your interest in our game, we’ve worked very hard on it. Also, a lot of it wouldn’t be possible without the community. Specifically the flag waving shader (which I’m still waiting on a response for since the normals don’t get recalculated), but also all those who answer all our support questions.

Couldn’t play, is just saying Server lost connection. Maybe is an error because of the user not activated? Mine is Ygo.

Anyway, i am trying to play from Firefox 3.6.7 , OS Windows Xp and after i close the game tab, Firefox crashes.

it works now great. and the game looks very good.

i only had 5 minutes to test this game because i’m at work, but it looked pretty nice and i’m sure it will be alot of fun. though, i also got a connection lost error, which would be pretty annoying if it keeps happening every 5 minutes.

edit: i forgot to ask: are you planning to release a downloadable client or is it gonna be web-player only?

I’ve played for more than 5 minutes (mayde 30 minutes or so) and the game was really good. I really enjoyed playing it but I’ve some things to criticise:

*Water is too reflective, this prevents perception of water depth.
*GUI is exactly the same as WOW (I know they have a really good GUI but seeing an exact replica just disturbed me, eventhough you implemented it really good)
*Quest system is also same as WOW but missing some parts like progress indication(1 out of 3 meats for example) and the written part(I have to guess where to go all the time)
*The ship doesn’t stop when I click on shop(it would be better if we had to stop to click or ship stops when we click)

I hope you don’t get my suggestions the bad way, I made them because I see your game as something I can pay to play not a normal indie game.

@dbp
I do not get these connection errors. We stay logged into the game pretty much all day during work hours so we can know when it goes down. Troubleshooting connections is a little bit out of my league, but I will ask around…

@Speed

  1. I’ve tried messing with the fresnel, but I’m not an artist. The fact is we plan to hire someone to make us a nice shader with specular and that’s just better water overall.

2.Yeah, some things are similar to WoW (for good reason), but I wouldn’t say exactly.

  • You can see progress by hovering your cursor over the text.
  • We are working on “quest” text.
  1. You should post it (and all others) on our suggestions forum and see what other players think!

Thanks for your input!

** I have also activated more accounts created up to this point.

In short…fantastic. Congrats to your team. This game is a lot of fun.

There are a few things in common with WoW, but I think it’s more in common with MMOs in general. I don’t mind at all the similarity to the quest log or quick bar. It makes it very easy to pick up and play. I really enjoy the starboard/port division on the ship, both for health and for attack.

I’m having a few connection problems, but today I played for about 15 minutes uninterrupted.

My only issue is the right-clicking. I have to go fullscreen on my mac for right-clicking to work. If there could be an alternative for this, like CMD-click, or CTRL-click, that could be great.
