I have downloaded the car tutorial to learn from, but
it seems to result in a lot of errors?
I follow the PDF exactly, but I get errors all around.
Has this been created using an older Unity version?
(perhaps incompatible).

Did you copy paste out of the tutorial?
Maybe some character got copy pasted wrong?
You could download the version which comes with full source code and take it from there.
