CarEdu - Car Tutorial extension

Hello Unity devs players.

A couple of weeks ago, decided to spice Car Tutorial project up a bit and also learn some basics of Unity. Started from adding a minimap (basically using the script written by Rman) and splitscreen multiplayer mode… then “accidentally” came menus, namely main menu (+ submenus) and pause menu, completely from scratch.

And so far, I’m implementing a waypoint system now (nobody is supposed to know that! :stuck_out_tongue: Guys on IndieDB/ModDB will know after a few days if everything goes well. :-))

Below screenshots.

The first/old version

The new version

The project will be kept open-source to the very end. Where exactly it’ll be finished - dunno…

The source of the “latest” version:

The official website at IndieDB:

Unity tutorials written so far:
How to make a minimap
Splitscreen input
Splitscreen cameras
How to create main menu
How to create an in-game pause menu
(And minor ones about hiding cursor and replacing one soundtrack with another)

awesome work, many including myself will appreciate your work.

@EFFalcon, thanks. :slight_smile:

Regarding that waypoint system. Published some news about it on IndieDB:

The flowchart

Waypoint system in the editor

The rest and the code can be found in that news:

a little comment, you should look at your code. this can proberly be done in a few lines instead of the loads of if you have right now. specialy when you have 50 waypoints or such…

Thaaaaaaaaaanks…

Yeah, I know, variables will be replaced with arrays. Arrays will also allow re-coding of the script to something more flexible.

You’re welcome.

its so great

Nice additions

this is a nice thread

great work !
Their was a damage system for collisions that worked pretty well on the forums how about adding that, whats the best way of contributing to the development ?

Thank you all!

You mean:

or rather
http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/50643-How-to-make-a-physically-real-stable-car-with-WheelColliders?highlight=damage+system ?

For now, it’s rather a small educational project, nothing more. We can see where it goes, and maybe then some new prospects may appear.

BTW, a new update, nothing special: (Waypoint system GUI and a new in-game pause menu)

Thank you all!

What password? The rar isn’t protected by a password. Where did you download CarEdu from?

And yes, release #3 is here!

Unfortunately, there are no new tutorials written… yet.

can we use the base of this in our own games. What I mean is using the waypoint codes, the cars and minimap in our own games (So in the game we would have some of the stuff that you put together along with my own things and then publish it as a full game)

Are there any conditions in using it in my own game

WAypoints and menu don’t work

Hmmm, perhaps this projects needs to be reworked.

And no, there aren’t any conditions except that it needs to be a Unity game, i take zero credit for it. This project is entirely based on Car Tutorial developed by the Unity team, credit goes to them.

I hope this project will continue to be developed. I think it has good potential. Looks good, so far.

thankyou man i love your stuff i have been looking for these things for now about a month. i came across this i am just amazed. i was almost crying tears of joy
