I have seen how you can cast what you are seeing in Oculus Quest to a companion app on a smartphone. My question is, can you cast the view from an anther in game camera? Or is it strictly a mirror of the players POV?
I would be very interested in this also, although it would obviously be quite taxing on the device rendering everything twice (we struggle to keep a good framerate with everything rendering on just one camera!)
I didn’t use Oculus Quest. Can anyone say what it’s like?
If anyone googles this, the answer is no. The casting to the companion app seems to be explicitly the POV from the headset.
If anyone else googles, this answer is maybe; depending on your use-case. Take a look at Mixed Reality Capture. It’s normally used to put a person in front of a greenscreen and composite them in to the game, but it does allow you to specify an non-head-tracked camera and send it to a computer. It’s a bit of a hassle to set up, so it’s probably not useful for a consumer-based game, but if you have control of the environment and setup, it should do what you want.
