We are looking at upgrading from 5.5.4.p1 to 2017.1.
Most things seems to work which is nice. But I noticed that one of our particle system looks different in 2017.1 its scale or rather aspect ratio is different. Its a asset store particle system, this one in particular
Hi. We have some issues with Particles in prefabs upgrading. These problems should be fixed in the next patch 2017.1p1 which is due Friday. If you still have problems after this patch then please file a bug report.
Thanks Karl, sounds good! Would I need to redo the upgrade? I would lose some uncommited changes if thats the case
edit: Or maybe I can just revert the particle system changes and 2017.1 will upgrade those files only?
It affects prefabs and scenes. So if you have changed either since the upgrade then it may not upgrade correctly.
Havent changed them since upgrade, but maybe the upgrade process did change them? Should I revert those changes (If any) and the upgrade process will do its magic?
Wait till the patch comes out, if it does not work then try reverting them ![]()
If that still fails then file a bug report.

No change in how the particle system behaves.
Maybe 2017.1 is more true to the screenshots on the Asset store page actually
But it also looks more cartoonish. The big question is, why do they look different in 5.5.4 and 2017.1

This is more of the asset provider’s responsibility to have the asset updated to the recent Unity builds, but it seems to be impossible to contact the provider directly given their website domain has already expired and without any other contacting method available publicly. Asset store admin should have their email address so you can ask them to deliver your message for them.
Without any knowledge of the full detail of the effect, the biggest culprit would be sub emitter. You may show us the prefab hierarchy of the effect and how the sub emitters are linked to the spawning emitter.
Its the top particle that is missing in Unity 5.5.4
its much more prominent in 2017.1 and also actually is more true to the asset store screenshots, but it also makes the effect look more cartoony
Can you expand all the checked modules of concrete like emission and color over lifetime?
The settings all look normal just from the screenshots. You may do the following test 1 by 1:
- Uncheck the color over lifetime module or moving the color/alpha markers of its gradient.
- Enable looping and give emission rate over time some value like 50.
- Change the render mode (renderer module) to simple billboard mode from stretched billboard.
