Changing alpha by distance

Noob question. My intent is to reduce a sprites alpha based on how far away it is. So I got the distance between 2 objects. I reduced that down to 0f through 1f... the problem is

mySprite.color = new Color(1f,1f,1f,distance);

Results in the alpha rising as the objects move apart (The distance rises)

How can I flip that? I need the alpha to drop as the distance rises.

MySpace.color = new Color(1f,1f,1f,1 - distance);
