Charging for Facebook game?

If you make a facebook game with the unity webplayer, can you charge an initial fee to play the game? Most games I see on facebook make money off of in game purchases, but can you charge 99 cents for the whole game?

You can do as you please. You’ll need to do it within your code though, I don’t think and very much doubt that Facebook gives you the ability to do this since the future is in game stores.

I think you can only make money off ads.

@Duskling Facebook doesn’t give you money for ads.

I can’t seem to find anything that says you can’t but you may want to fire off an email to Facebook’s support and just check.

You could incorporate ads into the game, though, right?

So, yes you could incorporate ads into the game.

Yeah I was thinking…why couldn’t a person implement their own ads via something like Adsense?

I thought most games have coins or something similar that you can buy using normal currency because you actually want to spend money on something like a smurf village -_-

Don’t knock the people who are supporting your games (;

The freemium model has seen a lot of success I think largely in turn because it has the “play now, pay me later” mentality behind it, rather than charging upfront for something you’re unsure about. Also the fact that the user can theoretically sink as much money into it as they want. It’s a bit strange, seeing as the trend is towards less money for games yet people are willing to pay more for ingame benefits, but whatever works I suppose.
