general model format for unity3d seems fbx. from assets store we get models as fbx. i use blender and could not get fbx correctly. also there are some problems to export it. there are some editor like cheetah3d, daz products costs around $100.
i want to edit both model and and animation. which product do you suggest. 3d max is too expensive for me
if blender can do all, is there any blog to explain this integration?
(i will import fbx to editor with materials and animation. i will edit both. i will export fbx and use it with unity3d)
Blender probably doesn’t import FBX because theoretically there could be a lot of things in there not supported by blender. But for Unity models it will support everything. So there might be a script out there supporting this, as dbryson has mentioned…
Autodesk (maya, 3ds, mudbox, motionbuilder) products are free if you don’t use them commercially
You can give Google Sketchup a try, it is especially good for beginners (I don’t know if you are one though ^^)
Actually MrBurns autodesk products are free if your licensed as a student and not using them commercially. Otherwise you’d be using a trial version or have paid for it
A lot of people are using blender, if you are having some troubles with the fbx export, depending on what you need to export, autodesk does provide an fbx converter. Bassicly converts obj, 3ds, fbx, to one of those types - your choice. Keep in mind some formats wont support certain things, like bones or materials so you have to come up with a workflow for that.
Blender is a good free option, but not being a blender person I’d continue to ask around as to how it can do it all for you, I know a lot of people on the forums here are using it with only small hiccups.
Been using Blender with Unity for years without issue. If you’re using Blender 2.49 it will work as is with Unity 3.4. If you want to use Blender 2.59 then get the updated script posted in the link above. Nothing else is needed, nothing else to do.
what i want to do is integrate my collected data such as 3d model, texture and motion capture data. i dont want to use to many external data to integrate them. for example; to use fbx in blender i use autodesk fbx converter. now i look for how to import c3d motion capture data to blender. i dont want to spend my time to look for these solutions. i want to buy an application that covers these requirement. i know expensive products can do that but i dont have much money i hope a $100 product will satisfy me
if you mean with this script i can successfully export what i have(model, material, animation) in blender it solves half of my problem. then i have solve to get fbx and motion capture data to blender.
@atmuc - I think you need to explain what it is you want to do more clearly: What format is the motion capture data in? What app is the FBX being exported from? Where does Blender fit into your current workflow?
Blender doesn’t import FBX, as someone else explained. It does, however, import various motion capture formats (but not all, and not necessarily easily).
@bigkahuna i want to use assests store that supply generally fbx format. so i dont know which application generated this files.
so far i found c3d motion capture data. my flow will be that
1.import fbx with model, material and animation
2.import motion capture data
3.modify model
4.modify animation
5.add animation with motion capture data
6.export to unity3d
i need support for steps 1,2. for step 6 i will use suggested script.
Well, MilkShape is usually pretty good, even tho Mete Ciragan has turned into a deadbeat and hasn’t updated it since 2009 or so… Guess he must have conceded to Blender, if that was the case. Otherwise, for the guy who said that DAZ was not an editor, that would be DAZ Studio. DAZ does have modeling/editing tools, namely Bryce, Carrara and Hexagon, now THOSE are their modeling tools. I believe there is a free version of Bryce at least, the Personal Learning Edition. I’d definitely check that one out.
