I’m building a Nintendo Switch application in Unity 2020.3.33.
I’d like to check for a network connection however if the network/internet is turned off on the device, it seems that any check that I perform causes the device to popup with an error window and direct the user to connect to a network.
If I’m not connected, then I don’t want to ask the user to connect. If I am connected, I want to check for any live-ops updates.
Application.internetReachability does not cause this error window, however Application.internetReachability == NetworkReachability.ReachableViaLocalAreaNetwork is always true. So it cannot be trusted.
On other platforms, I attempt to download the file I need with UnityWebRequest.Get. This may return an error if there is no connection and I handle that appropriately. However, it’s all behind the scenes. On the Switch, it forces the user to respond to the network error.
I tried using Ping.SendAsync with the same error response.
Is there any other way to check for a network connection without forcing the user to respond?
