Hey guys, I’ve been working on this since early April. I’ve messed around making cubes move and stuff before but this is my first Game using Unity.
It’s a skiing game aimed at the freestyle skiers. I tried to make it more of a simulation than a game. So I focused on making sure the spin/flip axis blends together nicely. There are still a whole lot of bugs but I’ve managed to figure out a few of them. The answers section of this site has also been super helpful. You can play with either the controller or the keyboard. The only thing is that it was hard to get working because the Input manager in Unity isn’t exposed so I had to find a workaround. I really wish there was a consistent set of drivers out there that just worked for Mac or PC and kept the mapping on all the different controllers consistent. It should really just work right away like a Mouse when you plug it in.
I decided to go with the webplayer build because I wanted to release it unfinished and let the ski community make suggestions as I work on it. The controller is way more fun I find because you have more control and you have the option of doing slow spins at a more constant speed.
The amount of people that are stoked on it amazes me everyday. A bunch of people are even making edits. I’m at 52,000 unique visitors to the site in 16 days! Try it out and let me know what you think.
And here’s one of my favourite edits someone made:
I ended up hitting a wall and falling over. When I got back up, I couldn’t gain enough speed to do anything. So, I kind of jumped in place until the character’s body fell through the world and he was hanging upside-down from his feet. . . .
Wow really nice! This is my favorite forum to visit- Every day it inspires me to keep on pushing forward with my game even on days that I am ready to give up!
This looks really cool, good work, and right up my street. I think you could make it look a bit more fluid if you animated a bit of knee flex when the player jumps and lands. Other than that, very nice.
its awesome that you can play with a ps3 control. just an awesome game. only thing i see is a problem is a little bit bugs here and there, but one of the best freeskiing games out there!! keep going man!
