I’ve come across a little dilemma here as I have been using Blender since I have been using Unity but I was thinking of maybe buying Cheetah 3D as it looks pretty easy to use and has some good tutorials online.
I was thinking of buying Cheetah as well I haven’t been using Blender long and I just find it so hard to use and I don’t personally think it is very user friendly. On another note has anyone else been using Blender and then switched to like Cheetah 3D and found it much easier?
From what I have seen Cheetah has some very good reviews and seems like a very useful piece of software. So far all my games have had pretty bad art in them so I wanted to kinda up the game a bit with my graphics.
I’d say keep blender either way because it’s free and try out the Cheetah3d demo and see how it suits you. I personally use cheetah3d primarily but I see no reason why one who has cheetah3d should not get blender. From what I hear other people say cheetah3d is a little simpler while blender is slightly more professional. Also note that blender has a large variety of Plug-ins while cheetah3d has none to speak of, at least to my knowledge.
Thanks for the reply. Yes from what I have read over the internet Cheetah is said to be pretty basic but I do find the interface much nicer than Blender. Well I suppose I will carry on a bit with my trial and see how it goes I’ve finished like going through the interface so I’ll probably start doing some tutorials now.
The External Tools forum is the place to look for information about 3D modelling packages. You should get a lot of help there, and a search may show that the information is already there.
To answer your original point. I hated the usability of Blender. I tried Cheetah (I got it on a disc that came free with a magazine). It was better, but I still didn’t like it. I ended up using Wings3D, which is free and I thought easy to use.
