Children tripping off parent OnTriggerEnter? Why is this?

Hello,

I have an AI that is told when to jump by touching a collider on the parent object that makes him jump.
The problem is a child object of the AI has another large collider on it for seeing you, the player. For this reason the AI is told to jump when it doesn’t need to because the child collider is tripping of OnTriggerEnter on the parent

Why is this and how do I stop it?
