Chrome to end NPAPI support - problem for Unity Web Player?

I read an article a few weeks ago that mentioned chrome will be phasing out support for NPAPI -

Saying Goodbye to Our Old Friend NPAPI

While I don’t really know the ins and outs it basically sounds like this is bad news for the Unity Web Player? Unless the player architecture is ported to PPAPI as has been done with Flash -

The road to safer, more stable, and flashier Flash

Can anyone help elaborate on what this all means for the Unity Web Player?
