Sorry if this has been asked before but I didn’t see anything.
Does anyone know if Unity games can be submitted to the Chrome Web Store? It seems like a perfect place to market indie games.
should be available. I find woods golf game of EA in Chrome Web Store.
Generally, the Chrome web store is not open to Unity content just yet (EA managed to get an exception for Tiger Woods, though). However, once Google releases a version of Chrome which ships with Google native client (or shortly thereafter), we will be able to ship Unity NaCl, which will produce native client executables, which will be accepted onto the Chrome web store (and play in Chrome without requiring a plugin).
Perfect! Thanks for that information. I guess I will just keep sitting tight then.
Has there been any change on this front?
The Native Client thing is still in development but there is no firm release schedule yet.
Will this Unity NaCl (which I’m assuming is not a special form of sodium chloride) be included in the default Pro/Free packages?
Unity is unlikely to answer that question, until they actually announce NaCl support as released. At least thats how they were with Android support before it came out.
NaCl really should be free IMHO, as it would allow Unity games to run on many unsupported operating systems. A standalone NaCl sandbox would even allow the games to work as stand alone games, on unsupported OSes. But Unity will have to weigh the costs of the development against the significantly increased target platforms base that would make thier engine more attractive. Of course, if they really need to reap profits, they could make it a bundled platform with Unity Pro, instead of an extra license, which would convince more free users to upgrade to pro.
/me already has Unity Pro ![]()
What is the Chrome Web Store?
Do you know how to use Google, right?
http://www.google.es/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=chrome+web+store
lol, I will definitely be bookmarking that site
lmgtfy cracks me up every time.
So, can we already submit our games to the Chrome Store?
No you can’t build NaCl targets yet
Potentially with 3.4 as thats the first release after Chrome 10, perhaps sometime later
Awesome, I love that site ![]()
What’s the latest on Chrome Web Store? Any Unity devs publishing to it? If so, what’s the process for getting something on there?
This
This gets asked all the time. Should be doable, and yet…
Do you mean, game using native client, or just games made in Unity? I have one up (using the regular webplayer):
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ddnljdpnedpaioaofjmjfgofojecjlek?utm_source=chrome-ntp-icon
And, I saw that Hyperbowl (which uses native client, I believe) is up:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/mkhobpkhmhhpilfbnpkkkgaijfohahcf?utm_source=chrome-ntp-icon and CS portable is on CWS as well.
As far as publishing there, it was as simple (or not) as publishing on Google Play: just sign up and follow Google’s docs on publishing an app.
