Cinema 4D: Export textures made with Bodypaint

Hey guys,

I created a small object in Cinema4D and painted it using Bodypaint 3D. Now i want to export it to Unity of course but I have problems exporting the textures.

Its not only because of Unity. When i export my model to a .fbx-file and open it again with C4D the textures are gone as well so they dont even get exported. So what am I doing wrong that C4D doesnt export the colors?

Save your textures as PSD, PNG or whatever you like and export your model as FBX by hand or use the embedded feature in the export settings.

When i saved the texture as .tif-file it didnt work. And i already use the embedded feature. If I only use simple materials with just one color and drag&drop them on my model it works fine. Its just that i use bodypaint the first time and the textures made with bodypaint dont work. Everything else is just fine …

Dein Model hat eine UV map ?

Das kann ich dar ehrlich gesagt gar nicht sagen, dafür kenne ich mich viel zu wenig mit Cinema 4D aus.

Somehow my texture seems to be implemented in the fbx-file now. Maybe you can give it a try and open it in your 3D-program (like C4D, 3dsmax etc.) and in Unity3D and tell me if you can see the colors? This is the file: http://www.file-upload.net/download-8929637/Hill1.fbx.html

I suggest you first learn how to properly UV map before getting anywhere near Unity. If you don’t understand the basics then you won’t make it very far. Don’t try to run before you can walk. There are plenty of tutorials out there on how to create simple 3d objects with uv maps and textures. Take it step by step. Also, let’s please keep it to using English on this forum shall? Thanks!

I might be wrong but I thought that the build-in Bodypaint would be easier then UV Mapping so I wanted to start with it. And its just the problem that I dont get the textures made with Bodypaint into Unity. If I use simple materials its no problem for me but i cant use them this time cause then i needed to split my model what i don’t want to do.

But maybe you can try my file and open it in Unity and in C4D and tell me if its colored or not.

If you plan on having actual textures on your model then there is simply no way around uv mapping it. So I suggest you start learning on very simple objects. Your file is also highly un-optimized as it has far too many edge loops/vertices/polygon. Again, I get the impression that you aren’t very experienced so take it a step at a time.
