Cinema4d and prelighting/vertex lighting

Hi all,

Got a colleague about to help me on some asset creation and I was wondering if anyone can help me with some information; can Cinema4D do prelighting/vertex lighting like one can in Maya?

If so, now that 1.5 supports c4d file format directly can I use the shader found here http://forum.unity3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=1682 to set up the c4d created assets in Unity?

Any info to shed light on this would be great!

Cheers.

To answer your question in a rather quick way: No

CINEMA 4D is not able to do “prelighting” yet…this feature is just not in the core yet. Guess we have to push Maxon on that one

Thanks for that! That will stop me hitting my head against the wall, and explain why I can’t find any info on the net.

Certainly looks like Maxon is starting to take notice of game asset creators… they’ve certainly looked after the motion gfx artists!

Cheers.

Well one never knows what Maxon is up to but I don’t see them paying too much attention to game asset creators at current time. I think that Maxon will first make sure that their CA tools get taken care of before they could attempt the “game” market. C4D lacks in that area and what is a 3D Application without good CA tools? This is a big minus currently and prevents people from creating game content (of course it’s still good for static content and simple animations) but Maxon really needs to concentrate on that.

However, Maxon keeps an eye on forums and an ear to people that ask for feature implementations or bugfixes. So feel free to bother them directly!

Yes I agree, its CA tools need work. Maxon certainly is a fun company to watch, their releases are always good value. Bit like Apple in that regard!

cheers.
