"Clean succeeded"

So, every so often I’ll be working on a project, hit “build and run”, and tab over to my web browser or some other task while I wait for the deploy to pop up on my iPad.

Sometimes, after several minutes, I’ll notice that it hasn’t happened yet despite no errors, tab over to Xcode, and see it happily reporting “Clean succeeded”.

It’s a bit of a drain not being able to trust it to do its thing behind the scenes without my direct and constant supervision, especially since it takes so long that it’s time I’d much rather spend doing something else that might be useful.

Does anyone know why that happens? Why does it clean instead of building and deploying?

No, but I never use “build and run” since I read somewhere of people complaining that it did not work. I think I tried it a couple of time to no avail. So, I always just use “build”.

@ angrypenguin: I thought I was the only one again and again falling asleep while compiling to iPad…sorry, can´t help

This happens when you Cmd+Tab to other application at the wrong point of time (right after clean and before build operations). Unfortunately “Build and Run” feature requires Xcode to be active application to work properly. Though once build and deployment operation has already begun you can safely switch to other application.

Can I task switch prior to XCode opening? That’s when I seem to get the issue - I press Build and Run in the menu, the progress bar pops up, I tab to another app and carry on doing stuff, eventually XCode pops up and I typically task switch again pretty much straight away.

So do I need to leave Unity and XCode both alone until the Xcode Build and Dploy phase begins, or can I task switch while Unity is doing its thing and just have to be more patient when XCode pops back up?

Cheers!

You should leave XCode alone until Build and Deploy phase begins.
