Closed vs Open list

Seems that Seon beat me to this type of post already, but as I have already typed the following…

I am sorry, but I have to step in for second as this post has irritated me to no end.

Zumwalt,
Yes, Tom was a bit short with you because he was under a very reasonable assumption. He believed, as would I, that you could see the e-mail button at the bottom of the post. You proved him wrong, and he apologized. It should have ended there. You, however, seem to take joy in proving him wrong over and over again. At that point, I would have blown up on you for being a baby about the situation, but Tom did not. He calmly posted his full email address in the forum. Lets take a step back and look at the implications there, shall we? As a rule of thumb, it is a terrible idea to post an email address in a forum, especially a popular forum. Tom didn’t post his full email address because he would get massive amounts of spam for doing so. So lets look at this again. First, Tom apologized (Tom, by the way has always been extremely helpful to me, and I am sure many others will attest to that as well). Second, Tom kept his cool and invited spam upon himself by replying with his email address (which, by the way, took me a total of two minutes to find here, how long does it take you to post yet another screenshot to prove him wrong?). Last, Tom again kept his cool while you blatantly ignore proper forum etiquette. So I ask you, who is to blame for your self proclaimed horrible treatment? The answer, sir, is yourself.

Tom,
Again you go above and beyond to be helpful, keep it up! I applaud your ability to stay clam in situations like these.

I didn’t say don’t post facts… I said PLEASE STOP WITH THE FREAKIN ATTITUDE!

It’s not the message, its the awful way you constantly decide to go about delivering it, then defend your right to do so with FACT.

Just cut out the aggressive attitude, PLEASE.

I appoligize, me and Higgy cross posted, he posted while I was creating more screen shots of my problem and as I stated in my other post, we cross posted which happens, as you know also.

I was upset and rightfully so. My response to Seon had no attitude and I laid out the timeline of events that lead up to the arguement which ended after the cross posting prior to Seons post. All of my screen shots were prior to him and his email btw, and again was cross posts which happens in quick responses on forums.

There is no need for more screen shots, this entire thread had 1 point and that was the first post, which was about it. I gave the dev what he asked for. Nothing after that point was needed. Higgy was curious as to the why this was posted in the forums, I stated why and it should have ended there, but it didn’t.

As far as the over and over again goes, I can’t stress enough those were cross posts. Otherwise I would have only posted a single image. I wanted to be clear that it wasn’t just a problem with my own posts that I didn’t see his email but it was all posts where I didn’t see it.

As I stated earlier, had a simple IM been sent back in response to my question about his email, and he responded with his email, it would have stayed in IM and then possibly found out that his email button was not viewable to all forum members which he thought it was.

That was the catalist to this entire argument.

What a waste of energy, no? :frowning:
I guess this thread should stand as a nice example of why some subjects should be handled in private between people. I know that the ability to do that was part of the issue at stake here, but I do see Higgy’s profile, pm, and aim buttons on zumwalt’s pics.

The whole temptation to make private issues public is one of the hardest things to get a forum community to withstand. We all could do a little better at this.

I also appologize to Higgy for this spinning out of control

Zumwalt,

You’re killing me man. In the amount of time it has taken me to read this thread I could have probably addressed a real issue or two that you are having.

For starters, I wasn’t even aware of this thread until Tom mentioned for me to look at it. As you may know, one only get emails from the forum system when he/she is watching a thread. The forum will automatically add you to the watch list if you respond once in a thread. Since this is a new thread and I wasn’t aware of it, then I wasn’t receiving email updates about it. I was surprised that you didn’t post in the originating thread:
http://forum.unity3d.com/viewtopic.php?p=132789
and neither emailed me, PM’d me, or posted in the original thread to alert me to this new thread you have created. There is an assumption in you doing this that I would stumble upon this thread or that I read every thread. This is another reason why the forum isn’t a reliable mechanism for company<->customer relations.

I think we can all see the ugliness of making things public that could be private. In an effort to take your concerns seriously about our (UT’s) responses to your requests, I suggested you post in the forum. I did this for a few reasons:

  1. So that you could get the public attention to these matters that your posting dictated. It appeared to me that since you were posting publicly about issues you had with us (UT), that you were wanting attention from us in this way.
  2. To expose any problems that existed with our bug reporting systems that maybe others have had trouble as well with that we were unaware about. At the very least, others would know that we were correcting these issues.
  3. To show that we have taken your concerns seriously and are publicly documenting how we have resolved them.
  4. To balance the “facts,” so that people reading these posts go away with accurate information. I put facts in quotes just then because a lot of what I am reading are impressions on your part. They insinuate that we are deleting your case numbers and mistreating you personally.

Now, on to your original post. I opened your excel list of cases, however, I don’t know what I am supposed to do with this list. All I can see from this list are cases that were opened at some time and closed at another. I don’t see the twisted bone issue just from looking at the titles. Would you like me to go through each one of these cases to find that one? Are you sure that you filed a bug reporting it? You mentioned red should be open. Are these cases that you think we closed improperly? I’ll state again that if you wanted to reopen any of these, this was totally within your control with a single response to the case.

Are any of these cases listed here for mistreatment of you by us? Were there comments in any of these cases that were derogatory or demeaning?

Regarding your second post about the missing case. This is serious issue as even if a case is closed it shouldn’t be deleted. The only cases that get fully deleted are SPAM cases, which are grossly invalid as being a real bug. I have already logged a bug internally with IT to look into this matter. It may be that FogBugz is deleting cases after a certain amount of time has passed, which is not what we want.

Finally, to come to the defense of Tom, even though his message to you was short in that he was pointing you to an item that he thought was visible to all members, he apologized immediately. He did not curse at you, demean you, SHOUT at you, or call you a jerk which you did so in return.

If you like, you are free to continue resolving via this forum post now that it will be on my watch list. Please do not create another post for this matter. You are also free to email me to continue this dialogue (runs off to go check whether email is listed at bottom of each post).

As I mentioned to Tom prior to your post and I will mention it again, I apologize, and I will continue to do so profusely. I should not have gone off the deep end, it was totally within my power not to, but I was totally stressed out and it was not his fault -at all-.

As far as continuing this, in the other thread you linked to, I had linked to the bone issue and further Maya problems (which btw I am also having at the moment it appears with the iPhone and I have a thread open with open dialogue about that problem which is new to this list) I told Tom in PM that if he liked he could move this thread to a more private area where it could be handled differently or he could leave it here if he liked, either way it was up to him. As far as I can tell he read that and decided to leave it in public forum which is fine, I am ashamed as to how I acted, nothing I can do about it, what was said was said, what was done was done and I am very embarrassed about the whole situation.

It was a mix of work issues, home issues, Unity issues, unresolved issues in Unity and current issues and what I perceived was constant questioning with the same answer from Tom, I was blind, and everyone knows it. I didn’t continue in the other thread because as you pointed out, the C4D import problems and the Maya import problems made it off topic, I thought they matched since it was ‘import’ problems to me. So rather than keep going in that thread and post the list of problems, I simply posted it with an appropriate title here in the general forums. You are correct, I didn’t IM you because I personally assumed you were watching the forums once or twice a day when you had the chance, totally my fault hands down.

I was the jerk, not Tom and I openly admit it, I blew up on him when I shouldn’t have been short with his response. I failed to sit back, relax, take a deep breath and take another look at the situation. Had I done that I would have reacted differently. I am sorry.

As I also mentioned to Tom, don’t worry anymore about that list. I am going to start a clean slate of issues and assume that all of those were post 2.1 related and just leave it at that. I will generate new screen shots of my Maya issues and attempt to create tickets with those, if I see that no attachment is on the ticket after it is generated, I will then try again to email support with the screen shot in zip format and reference the ticket.

I have tried to respond to the tickets to see if it re-opens them, but it does not re-open them. Not for me, but that is ok, it is closed with the additional information, but from now on I will notate in the ticket with another response that the last response didn’t open it back up. I seriously need to look at how I approach problems, granted old habits are hard to change, so please bear with me as I grow through them. I apologize to the community for this aspect about me. My personality is a spike, I am at a simple lull 95% of the time but when I am ignored for extended attempts, it seems to spike, those spikes is what I need to work on. That is who I am, and always who I have been.

Thanks for reading through this mess, again, I am sorry.

Zumwalt: Thanks for stepping up! Slate clean, looking forward to the future!

+1 I appreciate the post above (from Zumwalt) quite a bit. Thanks.

I’m looking through the other post and I can’t find any attachments or the original case number. If you have the original case number can you send that to me via email, PM or post it here? If the case no longer exists or was closed somehow, then can you create a new case and attach the file. Then, post the case number here or send it to me somehow. Since I am expecting it, then we can make sure that the attachment comes through properly. If it doesn’t, then we should try and figure out why that is happening as well, so that future bug reports from you don’t have this issue.

I’m glad that we are moving forward with this. A lot of things have changed with 2.5, so when it comes out it would be great for you to see if your problems have been addressed, which might explain why your cases were closed. If there are still bugs, then submit them immediately, so they can get looked at and if possible make it into the 2.6 release that will come a few months down the road.

This would be great. You can even respond to that initial, automated email that comes from us about your case and attach the file to that reply. It should get attached. Again, if for some reason it doesn’t we should really get that dealt with.

This is not good. Can you go ahead and open up a dummy ticket through the bug reporter and in the description tell us to close the ticket, so that you can reopen it. Also mention somewhere that it should be assigned to me, Amir.

I appreciate you stepping up on this. It is unfortunate that you were so frustrated and I hope you see now that it wasn’t deliberate. All of us have been working late hours to get the 2.5 release out to everyone as soon as possible. In the process, some things may have fallen by the wayside. Let’s make sure we address the questions/bugs you have and keep moving forward.
