Ok, after feedback from numerous sources, I have edited gameplay quite a bit. Cannonballs can be fired with just a click as fast as you can. The object is to destroy all 18 targets with as few cannonballs as possible. So the perfect score would be 18/18. I like to reign fire down from above so managed a pathetic 383/18 (but it was enjoyable to watch the houses burn!).
Yeah, wrestled with the shooting mechanic. I have the code already in place to just shoot at a certain power each time. That way you would not have to judge the distance while avoiding canons shot at you. Thx, for the quick replies!
re-edited gameplay. Cannons can be fired with impunity! Although the object is destroy all 18 targets with as few shots as possible. A perfect score would be 18/18. There is also a return to base function after all targets destroyed so you don’t have to just wander aimlessly!
I got 383/18. Beat that suckas! I am in to carpet bombing…
It feels very restrictive to be stuck on one plane.
This would be okay, if it weren’t for how sluggish the craft moves back and forth. I suggest getting the airship thingie moving faster backwards and forwards, to alleviate frustration.
Exactly what are the targets… I see castles, I see houses, I see mountains… but I don’t know what I’m supposed to hit, and there’s no feedback for when I get hit, other than the fact that I sink down and die.
The targets are the houses and the cannons, but also when I destroyed all of those, I just got 17 of the full 18 targets.
So, the three things, I would edit atm, is the indication of the targets (show the player, what he has to hit)
The indication of the player´s health and the aiming with the cannon.
I also noticed, that sometimes, all fired cannon balls disappeared.
lol - so to be honest, reading that most of the people here had fun spamming hords of cannon balls, why making the main goal to use as less cannon balls as possible to hit all targets ? ; )
That makes sense. Maybe highlight the targets in a glow.
As far as ship damage there is actually 4 holes that appear on your floats with steam pouring out but obviously not noticeable enough. On the 5th hit you go down.
As far as cannon aiming perhaps I can introduce two angles, the current one and a low almost straight angle so that you can get in close to the houses and tree… If it is multi-angle I think it will become too difficult again because you are always moving.
Yeah that is reasonable, Needs more definition… In subsequent levels I am going to add more turrets and different building types to bomb. A cannonball factory for example.
As far as more instructions perhaps an intro movie cam to illustrate the targets?
