Clouds: Test!

Hello,

here is a rather heavy scene, please test if it works on your PC.

400 clouds, each has around 1000 particles

Some load is implemented. It runs 60 FPS from the editor on my GF9600, webdemo seems slower.

There rest what you see in the scene is not mine.

TODO:

  • more randomness
  • fix shading, does not work properly at some angle
  • extra performance tweaks

I am gonna release it soon, clouds only, because there rest what you see in the scene is not mine. There will be two deals:

Free!. If you contributed to the community like this example anywhere (shaders, tuts, game demos, etc) - you can get the current project for FREE as well. Just drop a line here with a link to your best contribution.

Paid! Price is still to be decided. I guess around 20$.

To make if fair: some alternatives

Looks pretty decent but when you pan around you can see the clouds appear to be in rows and this does not look very nice. Some more random placement might look better.

Oh and FPS were for me - 30~ when looking towards the sun, and 80+ when looking in opposite direction, no clue why such a large difference.

Thanks! well it is still wip of course, lod settings make the transition better

I’m getting about 40 - 90 fps in full screen mode (i5 with GTS360M) but I’m not seeing any lens flares and when I closed the browser Unity crashed. I filed a crash report with a link to this thread so hopefully someone at Unity Tech takes a look.

I’ll also ditto KBG’s comments about the clouds not being random enough, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction for your flight sim.

I am working on randomes and such, eventually they will be in.

I am gonna sell only clouds of course. This is just a test project. I think I indicated it that in the first post.

About lens flare - that’s strange. It should work if you are not blocked by a cloud, because it has a trigged collider

Sorry, didn’t catch that. I’ve edited my post to remove that comment.

Ignore my post about the lens flares also. They’re working, the contrast on my monitor wasn’t adjusted correctly so it was hard to seem them.
