I am here to show my short game about flying islands for a level design competition in Lithuania. This level was made on my free time in about one week of development. Task of the competition was to create one level using unity free only.
This game is all about collecting coins, so, your task is to collect all coins in the map ( If I am right, there will be 24 coins to find )
Looks nice. What I would say is tone down the fog just a little, it makes things just a little odd-looking.
After playing, I have a few more comments. Several possible issues I found.
Collisions with the coins. Make them easier to pick up.
Not being able to change direction when jumping. I know you can’t do this in real life, but you also can’t jump 6 meters into the air.
The field of view made calculating jumps downwards very difficult.
The aforementioned fog issue. Needs less.
The fact the buildings don’t actually appear. You often see floating sets of windows and doors. Or houses with no roofs.
Texturing- some is good, but some isn’t so great.
Art direction. Your main problem graphically is that there are too many art styles going on. Nothing really matches. Flat trees that are really bright, ground using photo textures, houses using toon shading. Just too much.
First of all, I am interested what do you mean by saying
, because it doesn’t hapened to me when I was testing this game.
Secondly, the trees are flat, because, this level was firstly thought to be for mobiles and I tried to make low poly trees to save some frames per second.
I have also reduced fog and camera field of view as you said.
