[Collab] Seeking Programmer for Stardew Valley-Like Game (Already well underway)

Our project currently involves only myself (designer and pixel artist/also an award-winning author if that counts for anything), and one other (a programmer). As the programmer’s time is split between this and his own game (he is near release/crunch time), I’m looking for one more programmer to keep things moving along.

This is an unpaid, remote position, using Discord and GitHub to collaborate. I’d like to find someone with Unity/C# experience and, if possible, an understanding of client-hosted multiplayer development (though that’s not an immediate requirement).

Money is rather a moot point to discuss, but I’d be happy to do rev share on this title, or even continue working together on future projects as a studio if things go well.

I have no specific requirements, but please have links or videos of your previous work. It doesn’t have to be fancy or even a completed project. I’m capable of picking up on all the little nuances that go into a game that are often overlooked, but I would like someone who is detail-focused, and appreciates polish.

This game is similar to Stardew Valley, with its farming sim and social elements, as well as its top-down, pixel aesthetics. We already have a lot of the core aspects developed, including inventory, farming (tilling, planting, watering, etc.), harvesting resources (chopping down trees), basic interactions (dialogue, reading signs, etc.), combat (guns and swords), time and weather changes, base-building, etc.

I also have an artist working on some opening “cinematic” images for the titular character.

If this sounds like something you’d like to be a part of, please reach out to me. You can message me here (though I don’t check messages here too often). Or reach out to me in other ways:

In for the bump! I’ve had to turn down a few obvious scammers, but we are still looking for Mr. (or Ms.) Right!

We are a laid back and fun team to be a part of. Get in here, and get your name in the credits!

Another bump!

We did have a programmer working with us for a short time, but unfortunately his day job became too chaotic and he had to bow out.

Contact me here, via email, or Discord. Come see what we’re up to!

Bumping a year later!

While some progress had been made on the project, I had to regretfully shelf it for the past year. All three of my fans were very disappointed by the announcement.

My initial programmer is still connected to the project (he loves it as much as I do), though he is unavailable to dedicate any real time right now. He will be around to chat and answer questions however.

I also have another friend who may be assisting. Most of his experience is in enterprise programming, but he’s looking over the code and documents to see if it’s something he’d be interested in.

Some very basic networking and multiplayer has been added (hosting, joining, character selection and character movement) using FishNet.

These are the features currently implemented:

• Title screen, character selection, and game hosting
• Character customization (clothes)
• Basic multiplayer (FishNet)
• Character selection
• Movement and animation (needs multiplayer work)
• Melee and Firearm combat
• Day/Night cycles/passing time
• Rain and lightning effects
• Tilling, Planting, and Watering crops
• Crops and trees growing over time
• Felling trees and stumps, and harvesting wood
• Inventory and hotbar access/selection/cycling
• Storage
• Core base-building (walls and interactive doors)
• Object interaction (reading signs, NPC interaction)

I’ve only recently dove back into the design and graphics (pixel art) work, so I will be resuming that as well as level design and writing. (I already have a TON of sprites ready to go.)

I’d really like an experienced programmer (C#) to look over the game, fall in love with it, and help us push through to a playable, multiplayer demo.

My contact information is all in the original post, so reach out and let me know if this is something you’d like to be a part of!
