Collada support, skeletal animation

According to Unity 1.6 feature list Collada 1.4 with animations and bones is supported. However, I’ve been having trouble importing .dae files with animations, Unity produces an error and nothing gets loaded. I’ve tried several sample files from collada.org. However these files are version 1.4.1, is this version not supported? If so, does anyone have some sample files that include animations and bones that work with Unity? I would very much appreciate it if someone could share some sample files with me. Perhaps someone with Maya could export a sample for me using the Maya Collada 1.4 exporter (which from what I understand works pretty well)?

AFAIK, full collada support in Unity for skinned animations is no workie yet, judging by the state of the Blender collada exporter. Which, as I’ve posted here repeatedly, makes me VERY UNHAPPY, because it means there’s no way get rigged Blender characters into Unity…


But maybe you’re not using Blender - how are you creating your *.dae files? Almost any other commercial app w/ bones will export an FBX, which is the format which works best for skinned animation in Unity.

But there’s no fbx exporter for Blender either…bwaahahahhha…
