CombineChildren Does Not Work With Some Shaders

it seems the combine children script doesn’t work (can’t see the resulting mesh) when the meshes use certain materials, in my case the particle materials.

looking at the meshcobineutility script the shader source i suspect this is a uv issue but i can’t figure out what to do. does anyone know a way to fix this?
