Commercial PITCH use of WebGL

Hey there,

probably an absolutely abundant question but I have to ask anyways as it is a game changer at the moment for us.

We are planning to pitch a client of ours with a Unity3D build for a product presentation. However, he is asking wether he can or can not display it on the web with WebGL. Naturally I told him all platforms will be possible but WebGL as it is still in beta phase and thus of course not for commercial use available yet. (or for any use outside of beta).

However, is this really the case OR could we use the 5.x WebGL export to build a webGL demo and let our client use the demo online?

The Project would run by the end of January / February 2015. So either a yes on semi commercial use or a peek on release would be incredible

If we could use the WebGL in this pitch it would be incredible.
But of course: If not , i’ll find another way to convince the client ;).

Thanks

You can use WebGL in the Unity 5 beta as you see fit. There is no license clause or anything preventing you from shipping products with a beta. In fact Owlchemy Labs have already shipped two WebGL games with Unity commercially as part of the Mozilla Humble Bundle (see http://blogs.unity3d.com/2014/10/14/first-unity-game-in-webgl-owlchemy-labs-conversion-of-aaaaa-to-asm-js/).

However, you need to understand that WebGL in 5.0 is a preview build target, so you are using a preview of a beta. Expect stability and functionality not be up to par with what we would normally expect of a shipping Unity version. So, it is up to you to figure out if this is something you can work with or not.

Hey thanks a lot for the quick reply!

That sounds cool.
Thx. Ill post smth. once I got something to show for.
