i just got my version of unity pro, i am super excited! but i realised somthing that may cause problems… here is my concern…
i help a friend on a project but he is using the indy version … since i have the pro one, will he still be able to use my content? or there is something somewhere in unity that break compatibility between pro and indy projects?
and if yes, is it possible to have 2 unity installed…
one for my project and the other one for my firend’s project…
No, because Unity Pro and Unity Free are the exact same app. That is, you can have multiple copies of Unity, but they all do the same thing. There’s no such thing as “Pro” or “non-Pro” projects.
You are bordering on breaking the license of Unity and getting into a lot of trouble.
From the License Restrictions:
A company, incorporated entity, or individual may not use both Unity and Unity Pro. So a team can’t mix those two licenses.
It hinges on whether or not you and your buddy would be considered a team, or whether you are two individuals.
If you are directly editing and modifying the levels and gameplay that may qualify as a team. If you are in the credits, you would likely be considered to be on a team. If you supply scripts or individual prefab components it could be considered similar to using the Unify wiki or sharing info between teams.
It probably won’t lead to major repercussions, but beware that it could.
that was exactly why i asked so in an utopic world, i would have had 2 pc running 2 different version but it is not possible so, to stay legal, i NEED 2 version of unity installed… one for indy, the one i would use to help my friend and anither one (my pro copy) for myself…
i will try to use indy under different user on my pc and let you know if it works
