Since this has now happened a couple times, I thought I’d better check if there’s a solution…
I was working on a project, saved and quit Unity. This is on an external drive. I hooked the drive up to another computer to transfer an unrelated file (I’m teaching in a lab here).
Came back to my computer, opened up the project in Unity, and the Project panel is completely empty - none of the assets are there. Attempting to “Reimport All” does nothing, in fact it can crash Unity.
This freaks me out - don’t want my students to lose their entire projects.
Did you open the project from the external drive or copy it to the main drive and open it from there?
I opened it from the external drive, where it was originally.
edit → project settings → editor settings…
“enable external control”
perhaps you should enable that in your project before moving it to another computer.
This is what allows you to keep everything connected… its what i use. It creates meta deta for every file amongst other things which im not going to get into. But its what you want to use if more then one computer is messing with the project.
I dont know if this would help you at all
