I’ve been focusing on a project for a while now, I have a lot of work done but I’m at that stage of making everything pretty. I’ve always been stronger at coding than Artwork or Design and being a one man team makes it even harder. I was wondering what methods people here use when they work on Concept Art for menus or HUDs and the same for GameNames?
Game names are easy. This is because it doesn’t really matter all that much what anything is called. What matters is that a name is memorable, and associated with what you want it associated with. Just look at the Nintendo Wii. That is a stupid name. But it didn’t matter, because it was short, easy to remember, and they quickly managed to pin it to their system. 100+ million units later and you don’t hear Nintendo complaining about picking a silly name.
Having a name that is punchy and distinct is far more important to branding than something that is serious and overly complicated. Keep it as short as you can afford to, and use whatever mnemonic device you can hit on to keep it in people’s heads. Obvious puns are usually a good bet. Doesn’t matter how corny or silly they are, they usually work.
As for art style, I’m not sure I can help. I’m a graphic designer by training, so I always make my art myself.
