Confused Rogue - simplified Roguelike prototype

Confused Rogue (working title) is a game prototype I made over the past two days. I was inspired by Roguelike games, stripped the idea down to 1D movement, übersimplified the mechanics, and added just a dash of Glitch Tank’s randomised deck of moves.

The aim of the game is to get to the exit on the far right, pushing through neverending waves of barbarians as you go. But your set of available moves is shuffled (that’s the confusion part!) and each time you choose one a random new one takes its place. Losing all your hearts or getting trapped at the left side of the screen results in game over.

You can read more about it here, or just skip straight to a playable version here (runs in Unity web player).

I’d love to hear what you think!

P.S. I hope this is the right sub-forum for this. While it’s not a full polished game, it is in a somewhat ‘complete’ form and I have no solid plans to continue developing it just yet.

interesting…

Good graphics, need to know what the move symbols are.

I got forward, back to left, potion.

Dont know what the other symbol means.

Bad point is you die to quickly.

Nice. It’s an interesting concept and quite enjoyable. Made it to the exit on my second try.

There are 2 ‘forward’ commands. One of them moves 1 square, the other moves 2. You can use it to kill 2 barbarians in one move, but it comes up less often.

The potential for quick death is somewhat intentional and in keeping with the Roguelike idea where you can lose everything at any point, but I agree it is a little too difficult at the moment. It’s too easy to get stuck in a situation where you can’t survive.

Thanks!
