CONFUSED..

so I posted here about my discord page becuase this is general chat. I read through the terms applied above and it didn’t state anything about not being able to post about social links… there is even a PINNED post about someones Twitter with tons of replies with thier Twitter info… the pinned guidelines specifically says,

The Unity community is a friendly place for you to ask questions, discuss, help others and get help from other users on every aspect of Unity development. The community is built with all knowledge levels in mind, with the goal to support all Unity users in their creative journey!

I posted the discord in the same fashion as the pinned post about twitter. Discord is no different than twitter. I made the discord so that people can come in and chat more about an issue. Voice chat. Text chat, etc. It isnt advertising. I’m not making any money. I’m simply trying to give a helping hand in other aspects. So who ever deleted my previous post, you need to go ahead and delete that pinned Twitter post as well and not be hypocritical.

why the hell you telling us about it. Talk to the mods.

Thats literaly what the post is about. So the mods see it, duh.

It didn’t tell me who deleted my post so I cant just @ some random dude now can I.

You don’t have to make money for something to qualify as an advertisement. In fact most definitions don’t say anything about attracting people for the purpose of making sales. Google’s definition is one of the few that mentions it but they include the “or” to show that it isn’t a requirement.

You may not have noticed but the thread concerning Twitter has been locked for the larger part of a year. I don’t know the exact reason for it being locked but I remember we had a thread for linking blogs that people had started to abuse.

Beyond that we had a degree of drama surrounding third party Discord servers approximately one year ago which led to the creation of an official server. If I remember correctly there were a number of servers being created only for the people who owned them to abuse their positions, and the backlash from their members spilled over into the official forums.

Allowing such will create an avalanche of single post users whose typical pitch is “Hi I am DeathSkull666 and want to get a team for my idea to build an open universe, space shooting RPG first and third person shooter survival esports strategy with zombies and anime racing game. It’s really cool so come on over and discuss at my discord server at vaporwarefantasy666. Mkay…bye-bye!”. Then the veterans here will come in and smack the post maker upside their dense noggin, which can be fun but does not add anything useful or informative to the discussion. The better strategy is to actually participate in threads providing valuable content to be taken seriously and leave links in your sig file.

The is place for general discussion, not self promotion. Use Unity Connect to promote yourself and your off site content.

As noted above, that thread is closed, it just hasn’t been unstickied yet. Also as noted, chat servers, blogs, communities are are rarely used, close nearly as soon as they open, and aren’t really “helpful” for new users. 1 or 2 maybe, but a 1000 aren’t. So no promotion here, it is spam. These forums are for discussing Unity and game development.

If you have made a game you can promote it in Made With Unity, if you are working on a game, you can promote it in WIP, assets you can post in the Assets/Asset Store forum. Anything else doesn’t belong on these forums. You can use Unity Connect or the whole rest of the internet.
