console making

hey everyone,i was woundering about making unity to consoles…
i got a few question that i would love to know their answers :

1.where can I get ps3&xbox license for publishing and testing?

2.how does unity work with theese enviroments?(slow\good\same as computer)

3.how do I code to ps3 and xbox,get the players(player 1,player 2,3,4,etc…),get the whole buttons(in ps3 - R1,R2,L1,L2,R3,L3,the arrow keys,the joysticks,X,triangle,square,O,start button,select… , and on xbox - joysticks,arrows,A,B,X,Y,LD,LT,RD,RT,back,start)

4.should I make games for the consoles with Unity?

thanks in advance

1 - you have to have a valid developer license for the respected console you aiming to get it’s version of unity, and create an application for .

2 - you gonna need a Development Kit a hardware witch can get when you sign the deal with console sponsors , unity will port a connection through that and you can get your result through the kit on the screen attached to the kit , smiler to iphone development but not exactly the same ,

3 - you ain’t gonna make every platform game at the same time you got pick one first , considering the exception areas when every console will differ , that is a long subject called PORTING , so if you complete you work at PC , then you port it to PS3 then to Xbox, then to wii , if you can modifying the assets and port it iphone then andriad it up to you

4- YES , the only reason why unity is not much famous in AAA concepts is because they never made a game through there own development studio , like Unreal tournament and gears of war for UDK , and crysis and farcry for crytek , but don’t worry because me and my studio are on the way for the Next big title using unity the only thing is our way is the time .

lets say im aiming to xbox first, where do i get that dev account?,how mutch it costs?,how can i put it on the xbox indie live arcade?,how do i code it-where can i see that, cause there are guides for the iphone making/coding-scripting,so where/how on the xbox?

thanks in advance, sorry if i sound like a total noob or somethin… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It’s not an issue of where you get it or how much it costs, it’s an issue of having the game or the track record. If you don’t have an impressive game well into development or a track record of shipping profitable games, it simply isn’t available to you. Make the game first. Worry about the rest later.

Unless you have a publishing contract and the publisher can supply you with the console license you have to have a at least a good track record and a company with enough budget and a solid business plan in place. From what I heard a full xbox dev kit (one piece of hardware!) costs in the range of 10000$. I don’t know what an Xbox Live arcade license costs but from the rumors it costs less.
Xbox Live Indie isn’t a target of Unity. You have to use microsofts XNA to develop for Xbox Live Indie which costs 99$ per year.

if your an new or completely independent and can’t a touch with with a experienced dev studio , and you know you got what it takes to make a game go a head and do your best first create the game till you reach the prototype stage , then create a proper demo , then prepare a pitch of your game project (a real decent one ) then you aim your self to get contacted to number of publishers , if you prepared a nice pitch then you might have a chance to proceed in negotiation, once you make deal with publishers witch is not child play and far from easy , they can help you get yourself a funding and connection witch will eventually help you finish creating your game . enuf said

ok so one last thing, where do i post my “pitch” of the game,to get publishers help?

  1. Open your PS3 controller; inside the plastic backing there is a reference sticker with all the input code label schematics. Same for XBox 360 and the Wii mote.

  2. Please, don’t.

Write a four-page essay (single-space, front to back). Mail it to Tech Support with a copy of your birth certificate, drivers’ licence and/or ID (Bus Pass optional).
If your English is lacking, make sure to include lots of pictures (Illustration Art, Concepts, Doodles, Sketches, Maccaroni) or any other media that will help give you an edge over the competition.

Good luck!

I have been googling this theme all day long and I found very easy to find the emails of xbox 360 and Wii to where you can send you apply to be an approved developer, but sadly I haven’t found any email and even almost no information about the ps3.

Does anyone knows some email to where we can send the apply or at least some more information?
