contest: make a draw-o-presenter with unity3d!

the first annual draw-o-presenter contest
(by nothing from outer space, www.nothing.ch)

anonymous artists have so far created more than 1500 drawings with draw-o-matic. the concept of draw-o-matic enables artistic manifestation by anyone, anywhere on the planet.

and the entire stock of draw-o-matic pictures can be viewed by anyone anytime, too. the xml-feed of draw-o-matic is a public data source, a public domain art gallery.

the xml-feed needs an application written for example in unity3d to present the images – a draw-o-presenter. nothing offers a prize for the best draw-o-presenter. originality and fun are the criteria for winning this contest. screensavers or any kind of standalone application are accepted.

go and have a look at www.drawonet.com. also don’t miss the contest page on www.drawonet.com/contest.

I can’t help but think this is some kind of spam. What’s this got anything to do with Unity?

Especially that bit that says it has to run in windows 98 and above.

And if we must be the author of the entire code, then OTEE would be the only people allegible to enter.

Please look where you’re spamming before you do it :expressionless:

hm, if it’s considered as spam, then yes, please remove it immediately, i don’t want to offend anyone. i just wanted to invite the unity3d community to this contest as i think unity3d would be perfect to create a 3d “draw-o-presenter”… but please no flame, i’ll remove it if it’s definitely considered as unwelcome to post a contest invitation here.

It seems that the rules demand a player size of a maximum of 1.5 megabyte which isn’t achievable with Unity. So it may not be so relevant.

Of course you may want to revise that rule, which seems to rule out most types of middleware engines.

ah i see - what size is recommended with unity3d? what’s the smallest footprint of a unity3d application?

A web-player can be arbitrarily small, and the plugin is currently 3.6 MB (and less in the next release).

A standalone depends on the platform. A PPC standalone starts at 5.6 MB compressed, then add assets.

d.

okie, we just changed the maximum size to 7mb. let’s bring in those nice unity3d contributions
