Recently i got an idea of making a 3v3 physic/duel/interactive enviroment type game, and i wanna use 3 elements (water, fire, earth) and name them Earthbender, Waterbender and Firebender. Is that an issue about copyright? (Avatar: The Last Airbender, Avatar: Legend Of Korra)
Can i use that names? or do i have to call my characters other names?
Setting aside possible copyright issues, why would you want to use a name that people already associate with other properties? If your game is different and unique and nothing to do with Avatar, you would only be hurting your self by using a names like those. Many players will either assume your game is a rip-off or will a assume it is an official Avatar game and be disappointed to find out it isn’t.
OTOH, if you are just using those name to get name recognition, then you defiantly run the risk of copyright action as that is exactly part of copyright law exists for.
If your game isn’t related to Avatar, just come up with a better name, it is better all the way around.
