is the use of a character with a square head copyrighted by Mojang? like steve from Minecraft?
I want to use a block head on my characters but they are substantially shorter
and other games have block style heads too and then there is the bad robot productions…
wasnt sure… cant found it online … thought i would ask.
I’m not a lawyer, but no, Mojang can’t copyright the general idea of a character with a block head.
@JoeStrout has it right. You can’t copy right a look or a style. You can copyright an actual expression.
So as long as a ‘reasonable person’ looking at your character doesn’t say “that’s Steve from Minecraft” then you are good to go.
TL;DR - Steve is copyrighted. Blocky characters are not.
