Copyrights ... Asset Store

Hello everybody … I have a legal question …

If I purchase a pack from the unity asset store can I use the textures in that pack to create my own pack to sell? I created a bunch of custom models and UV’d them to textures from assets in the unity store.

Originally this was for a video game project I was involved with but as time passes it seems more and more likely that the project will not make it to demo stage. In the likely event that the project flops I would like to create Model packs using all the models I created over the past year to sell in the unity store. As it stands right now about 80% of all models are using textures from packs purchased in the unity store.

Do I just need to give props in the credits to the folks that made the textures I use from their packs? Am I allowed to use them as mine since they were purchased… or is this a No NO … professional courtesy do not do?

I was thinking I should contact the creator of the pack I used and ask them for permission. I’ll do that for sure but was hoping for some insight from folks more knowledgeable than myself.

Thanks!

While no legal advice on the internet is worth even the pixels it’s printed on, I’d recommend reading the actual Unity Asset Store EULA since it’s pretty clear…

If you need textures for your own models, there are sites which sell textures for that very purpose. These textures will come with a specific license that allows their resale.

There are also sources of free textures out there, though you have to be careful to ensure you’re getting them from a legitimate source who has the right to resell the textures in question. Make sure to read the license there as well as some items may require you to credit the original creator.

Thank you for your reply! I had the feeling it was a bad Idea to use somebody’s purchased textures in the first place… Yes, that is pretty cut and dry … do not use. Thank you also for the link …
