Correct Method for Importing Animations (with 3dsMax Bones)

I have a character animated with bones and helpers which I would like to import into Unity using FBX.

Do I need to import all the bones and helpers?

When I drag the character in to my Unity scene, you can see all the 30 bones too. All the helper controls wired in the Max rig can be seen in the gameobjects hierarchy.

I’m wondering if I’m importing too much of the characters 3dsMax rig. Whats the correct procedure. Am I doing it right?

I dont really see anything wrong in the way youre doing it, except that youre importing a lot of objects that you dont need. All the helpers etc. just end up as empty gameobjects and clutter the hierarchy right

I usually just select the skinned mesn(es) and all the bones that are used and use “export selected”. That usually works 99,9% of the time.

Ok thanks. Are you deleting the Mesh renderer component for each bone, leaving just the Transform?
