Crashing when using 'Place trees'

Im new to unity and im having a prolem when using the ‘Place trees’ tool with any and all projects i start.

I use the edit tree > add tree, to select the tree type, but when I click on the terrain to place them unity stops working and crashes to desktop.
It doesnt matter how many trees I place, the bend factor, or any other tree related settings, it always crashes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I thought i would try out Unity now that’s it’s free and i’m having the same problem.

Same here. I submitted a bug report, but imagine the devs are snowed under with reports from all the new users

I sort of found a sketchyworkaround that works for me. You are free to try it.

Here is a link to the post: http://forum.unity3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=35149. Just see my post in the thread. It basically involves going to Terrain->Mass Place Trees and adding a few trees. Then just delete them; then place trees as normally. It shouldn’t crash then. Save often. Stupid workaround, but it works for me.

Hey Guys,

Yes, we have a few gremlins in our tree rendering code. It seems to be related to the capabilities that different graphics cards have. Some customers appear to have no problems with trees. We’ll get a fix out in due course.

(If it makes you feel better, I get the crash on my MacBook Pro, and spent some hours last night debugging to try and figure out what was wrong.)

Graham

Thanks for the reply dendrophile, its good to know its not just me

Im still really enjoying using Unity and will be looking forward to the fix

Can’t wait for a fix! I’m honesty already in love with unity after using it just a day or two. If this continues i’ll probably buy the pro version.

P.S Dendrophile, i cough love cough your name :)D.S
