well i’m not sure how to start this, or if this is even the place to start it, but here goes.
My name is Matthys Ungerer, i was born in South Africa and i am currently living in Australia, i am sixteen, and i enjoy playing rugby for a hobby, but beside these normal traits i have a deep obsession with video games.
you see, ever since my uncle gave me the first age of empires for a birthday present, i have fallen in love with the immersive and graphical worlds shown in video games, and a few years later i decided i had to be a game designer when i grow up.
now the reason for this post is because i would like to come in contact with other non experienced rookie designers who have also just started out in the game developing field, and work together with them to have a better understanding of unity, or hey, even do a small project together.
ps. if this isn’t the right place to post this, could you please direct me to where
pps. English isn’t my first language so sorry for any grammatical mistakes
well, for advice on HOW to do this this is the correct place, for recruitment/collaboration check the Commercial and Collaborative Work sections
this is a good goal - indeed, to run a studio it’s not enough to just know about unity/3d stuff/programming - indeed if you want to RUN it you need something to pay people that will work for you, which can come from either your projects that you did solo/as a freelancer or through other means, also you need to get experience with management/running a company/all that legal/paperwork stuff
start learning/getting experience as soon as possible! it’s really awesome that you realized your ambition this early - start with small goals (creating a very simple game like pong) and improve from there
How old are you?
If you are under 18 then look for friends.
If you are over 18 then look for friends.
If you can make a good studio then hire other people.
how much unity do you know so far? have you gone through any tutorials or examples yet?
what is your main area of interest in making games? do you want to be a programmer, artist, project manager etc?
these are questions you need to ask yourself, and then start learning towards the path you want to be on.
before you worry about creating a “studio” or company, you should make sure its something you actually want to do by getting your feet wet. some people want to do it because it seems fun, then they start programming or modelling or whatever, realize they don’t like it or can’t do it, and then it just all falls apart.
if you can find a local group of people who want to get together and do this, are maybe already are, that would be your best bet after you do some learning on your own.
good luck.
