Creating a game in 5 hours streamed live

STARTED – Creating combat AI
__Free steam game to random person at end of game creation!__

Upon looking for tutorials to do with unity C# I found myself having a less than appealing appetizer of tutorials, so I’ve had to rely on the API for this. Although it served its purpose, I thought about those that haven’t got previous experience with C#.

So I thought what if I made games every month or so in 5 hours to test some game ideas that are interesting? I already do this, privately. But others could benefit from this, so I thought I might create a small 5 hour session to show people me creating a game within 5 hours.

People are welcome to be critical of my code if you so wish, just don’t be “you suck”, it’s not criticism. It’s trolling.

Anyway, in at 11:59 PM my time I will be streaming it live

Also, I need quick game ideas. I have a few in my head for this, but I welcome anyone else to bring your ideas to the table. It is completely open-source and will be using public-domain art or I may purchase it. It depends.

Bookmark it if you want to join in! I will be hoping people join in for the start and maybe some till finish.

Looking forward to hopefully seeing some of you in there

GMT - 4:00PM

sounds interesting…

put some timezones up…hard to calculate it : )

Sure, one second

(Done, bottom of thread, convert to your local time)

sounds very interesting

Hopefully it will be, I will be taking all input. If you have any game ideas that you want me to use(2d or 3d) or even 2.5d etc just say

maybe a 2D Minecraft

I’ll put that one into consideration, although most of the 5 hours may be spent creating the level generation, although I can have a rough copy of it done. Although, I was thinking more experimental ideas.

I’ve had my arm twisted into this:

How about a simple Asteroids game, with upgrades.

That sounds good, might do that  Gives me lots to do, like random generation, menus, upgrading, etc. Maybe even enemies if enough time at the end

Why not code an ingame level designer, with the ability to save and load more than 1. That seems interesting to me.

True, I have something like that planned for down the road. But I feel like starting from basics and then getting more advanced with each stream I do.

But alot of the time spent creating something like this would also be in the user interface, since it’d have to be intuitive if it was a level designer. But I could always do a rough-copy beforehand and focus on the technical aspects of such a thing.

But this is a really good suggestion, anything else similar ^^?

PS: I’m starting real soon. I’ll be streaming the setting up before I begin actually coding or doing anything of importance at 12:00

you could always make the 'ol avoider game!

Seems like a great idea. Are you going to record the streams and upload them somewhere later?

Yeah, I will be putting it up on youtube when I create the channel for this.

Also, with the avoider game. I may do that, but I’ve already got it in my head how I’m going to approach the space game in 3D. But I’m always open to suggestions since I haven’t started “yet”

Preparing environment now for the project.

awesome. I wish you luck! This is like Ludum Dare x 7 !!
you should upload your game for all of us to enjoy :stuck_out_tongue:

Good ol Aussie accent. Lovin it.

It will be uploaded with source code :). All assets will be public domain and I’ll make sure any external ones such as models etc are public domain before I begin.

He’s about to start!

bump

I joined too late… although you were still busy, I had no clue what you were doing! Very nice idea though.
