Creating a horror game

Hello there!
I would like to ask game developers/ game designers here about :

I know Unity is for a game engine, but I was wondering, modelling a building example big mansion is not recommended doing it in Unity right, as I would like to aim for realistic enviroment. (amnesia would be good for now since I am just starting it out)

I have a little bit basic of Maya since I am a graphic student ( still studying but will be having final project soon ). But I want to be a game designer in the future, so I would like to spend some of my free time to actually bring myself into a game design field.

Welcome.

Unity is not a modeling application. You can create primitive shapes like cubes, spheres, and capsules, but to do anything more complicated than that, you should use a modeling app like Maya or Blender. Which of those is most appropriate for you is entirely dependent on things like your budget and your previous experience with that product.

That said, there are extensions to Unity that allow you to create and edit models within Unity, but I haven’t bothered with them much, since I find it generally easier to just work in Blender.

Hello!
Thanks for the quick reply!
Based on your experience, do you use Blender or Maya more?

Below image with a room is for my first assignment , also it was my first time using Maya.
As you can see from the image, Everything is flat.

I wish to create texture like amnesia, like some parts will be shiny for a bit, while others are dimmed.

Thank you again!

@lockingkz , what platform on your on? Because if you happen to be a Mac user, I would recommend Cheetah3d. (Sadly, if you’re on Windows or Linux, it’s not available there.)

@JoeStrout Hello! I am using windows :).
Also for, environment, not building, creating in unity would be the best right?
I have been watching tutorials for quite some time, my opinion i think…Unity is the best for environment. Correct me if I am wrong.

Check your licensing. If you use the free version of maya & publish your game anywhere that you earn money, even 1c from ad revenue, you could be breaking the license agreement.

So if I were to use the game to earn some income for buying some assets from the store or something, I have to get the pro version am I right?

Correct. That’s why I use Blender. Totally free.

If you could make 1c in any way from publishing what you made then you need to ensure that all the software you used to make it has a license that lets you make money. As far as I know maya can bust you if you make 1c & didn’t buy a license.

So how about Unity Free version?
I am now using Blender for the modelling and progressing!
Thank you guys for replying to this thread!
