Creating a retractable claw

Hey guys, at the moment I’m in the stage of my game where I need to create a retractable claw to pickup stuff (I would give an example like the claw machines for winning stuffed bears and other prizes) How would I achieve this? I’ve tried using Charactor/hinge joints. I haven’t tried a line renderer yet but this is a 3D game and I don’t think I’d be able to get a decent looking rope. So what’s the best way to achieve the rectractable line and rope physics?

You’ve said you’ve tried using hinge joints. What happened when you tried that? How did you set up the rope segments?

Rope physics can be very hard to get right, so I’m not sure there’s a quick 'n easy way aside from buying an asset.
