Hi,
I was wondering if the iPad or iPad 2 has a rumble functionality. I know there were rumors but I never seen any of it back. Also with some tests we found out that you can get a kind of rumble with using low freq sounds, does anyone have experience with this?
I’m still waiting for a single game where vibrate did add something other than hurting me or the battery life as its more straining.
Its one of my top 3 big fat “no gos”, using vibrate for “haptic response” and I should mention that already haptic response, if you aren’t blind, is bullocks as it just makes everything more complicated by making you type slower, dropping the device etc. Haptic response is the first thing I disable on any phone I get.
But that might be a personal thing, I never liked it since its first incarnation on turok on N64 with the rumble pack … force feedback is one thing due to the “counter force” on the device, fully support that, but rumble / vibrate is really something you should not use for games and only to tell someone with disabled sound that someone is trying to reach you through message / phone call … my PoV on the matter and luckily also Apples PoV
If you want to give your gamer some kind of feedback use a fullscreen effect even a simple transparent quad or alike, to “visualize” the effect, that will make them much happier. Especially on something like the ipad that you normally put onto a table or your legs and alike.
Now… if you were 6 yrs old, and there were a huge red ‘FIRE’ button in a novelty app, you may feel differently. Perhaps you wouldn’t.
I’d want it to rumble like hell, but I’m a crass American.
